Oklahoma Pain Treatment Centers Reports Effects Of Living In Chronic Pain: Part 1

Did you know that living in chronic pain is something that, according to the Institute of Medicine of The National Academies, about 100 million Americans do every day? That being said, if you’re having joint pain, lower back pain, migraines, or any pain that can be traced back to the nervous system or spine, our Oklahoma Pain Treatment Centers physicians would love to help. First, we’d like you to know why you should care about getting some relief for that pain!

If you’re suffering, then you may already be aware of some of the side effects of living in daily pain. Still, we’d like to share some information as a reminder and especially to shed some light on the situation for those who may not understand what it is like to be in constant pain. Today, our pain management team is listing some ways that pain can negatively affect your ability to psychologically function.

Negative Psychological Side Effects Of Daily Pain

  • Developing Depression: Having something wrong with your body and living with the pain each day can take a mental toll. Just the idea of facing the pain on a daily basis can be enough for some people to feel discouraged, sad, hopeless, and disinterested in general life. While depression is treatable, it’s likely to stick around in about 17 percent of people for life, especially if they don’t do anything to correct the issue.

  • Experiencing Anxiety: Constant pain can also cause general anxiety problems to occur. Oftentimes people think depression and anxiety are the same, but they are actually different despite the fact that many daily pain sufferers will experience similar symptoms (or develop both problems). The key issues of anxiety include feelings of nervousness, restlessness, a sense of impending danger, and having increased breathing and heart rates.

  • Becoming Isolated: A healthy support system for anyone is ideal; unfortunately for those with chronic pain, a breakdown of relationships may occur. Many people in daily pain live alone because they either feel like outsiders are judging them by saying they’re “faking it” or this is, sadly, actually the case. Sometimes, it’s the pain sufferers themselves who choose to be alone due to the mental frustration of dealing with daily pain.

Do any of these major concerns sound like anything you’re going through due to daily pain? If so, please don’t live with it any longer!
