Approximately 80 percent of employment are sedentary and typically take many hours before a computer screen, so the pain of the neck is an increasing occupational concern. In addition, smartphones and other devices encouraged people to bow their heads over long periods of time. But is wrong posture the only fault?

Research experts at Texas A&M University figured in recent research that as bad neck and head postures are the main drivers of neck discomfort, the body mass index, age and times of day all affect the ability of the neck to conduct continuing or repeated movements. Your treatment for bulging disc in neck will go well if you consult an eligible and experienced doctor.

"Neck pain is one of the world's main, growing causes of disability," stated Xudong Zhang, Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Wm Michael Barnes '64. "Our study has shown a mix of job and personal factors which influence neck strength and endurance over time. More importantly, when these characteristics were identified, they can be adjusted to improve the health of the neck and prevent or deter pain."

The findings of the study are published online in human factors and ergonomics journal Human Factors.

According to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation's Global Burden of Disease study, neck discomfort is classified as the fourth biggest global cause of disability. One of the main reasons for neck pain was lifestyle, especially when people spend lengthy periods with their necks curved forward. But Zhang said a thorough, quantitative study could not show how personal factors such as sex, weight, age and occupational habits could influence neck strength and endurance.

Zhang and his team have recruited 20 adult men and 20 adult women without past neck-related problems to carry out controlled head-neck exercises in a laboratory environment for their trials. They did "sustained-till fatigue" head-neck exercises, rather than asking participants to keep a precise neck posture for a long period like what may happen at a workplace.
