You should also avoid putting weight on the injured area for 24 – 48 hours. You have to take proper rest to heal from the injury.

  2. Ice

    After that, you have to apply an ice pack for 15 – 20 minutes after every two to three hours. Keep in mind that you should cover the pack with a light towel. It will help you to reduce swelling and pain. You can also use frozen peas or corn instead of an ice pack.

  3. Compression

    You should cover the injured area with a bandage to prevent swelling. You should not wrap it too tight so that it can interrupt the blood flow. You should lose the bandage if you notice that the area turns blue, cold and numb.

  4. Elevation

You have to raise the injured area above the level of your heart to reduce pain, swelling and throbbing. You can also use a pillow to raise the body part.
